Nov 27, 2008 (DVB), A fire broke out at the Sein Leh Kanthar government guesthouse on University Avenue in Kamaryut township, Rangoon, at around 9pm on Sunday evening.

Both the Rangoon divisional fire brigade headquarters and Kamaryut township fire station refused to disclose the level of damage to the premises or whether there were any casualties.

One official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the fire brigade had been given orders by senior government officials not to release the information.

The guest house was the location for talks between detained National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and SPDC liaison minister Aung Kyi.

It has also served as a meeting place for United Nations special envoys and opposition party representatives.
