More than 10,000 ethnic Kachin are now thought to have fled their homes as days of fighting engulfed parts of Burma’s northernmost state. Some 2,000 have crossed into China, while many more have travelled to territory controlled by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), whose troops are battling the Burmese government.
