Commanders from the Shan State Army (SSA) and the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) met earlier in August to discuss co-operation in fighting the Burmese.

Major Saw San Aung, the DKBA’s Klohtoobaw region military operation commander said officials from the two groups met in an undisclosed location to discuss plans to fight together.

“The DKBA’s tactical commander major Kyaw Thet met with SSA commanders and they discussed on plans to bring down and crush the dictatorship system in a very near future,” Major Saw San Aung told DVB.

Major Sai Lao Hseng, spokesperson for the SSA confirmed that the meeting had taken place and said that they exchanged ideas and analysis of the current situation.

“If the military dictators continue to use their brutal, wipe-out tactics against us the ethnic people, then we, together with the SSA will use various methods such as waging mountain and urban warfare to defend ourselves,” Saw San Aung said.

“Also they discussed on plans to not only take a fixed, defensive stance  but also to take offensive against the Burmese Army,” he added.

He said the groups held the meeting as the fighting is still on-going in ethnic regions despite President Thein Sein’s recent proposal for peace talks with ethnic armies.

This renewed impetus was perhaps evident in a recent ambush carried out by the DKBA. The group attacked the convoy of the minister for Karen state, Major General Zaw Min near the key broder town of Myawaddy, whilst he was on his way back from an event celebrating the Border Guard Force (BGF) agreement.

The BGF deal was the government’s key pre-election effort to assimilate the restive ethnic armed groups into the Burmese army. Many failed to sign up seeing it as taking away their cherished autonomy, those groups have since come under sustained attack from the Burmese.

  1. Dan BW says:

I agree with DKBA and SSA. We, all the ethnic armed groups including ABSDF must be united to fight against the Burmese military which has rulled against all citizens of Burma using various tactics. It is not just a fight for KIA,SSA and DKBA but all the citizens of Burma for better lives and for our rights. I wonder why the strongest ethnic armed group, the Wa are silence! All armed group must fight in unity and must coordinate each other to fight the Burmese military dictatorship, and the opposition groups must fight politically too to crush the Burmese military.

  2. Denys Goldthorpe says:

Yes all people of Burma unite and destroy this regime which has butchered your people for decades. Whether you are in the DKBA the SSA or any of the ethnic groups Burma is your land and your country unite as one force and destroy this evil regime which has ruled you since 1962. March from every part of Burma and declare your right to be a free people.

  3. ty says:

why ABSDF or other burmese political organization should join with ssa or dkba?
I don’t think we are fighting for the same reason. Ethnic groups are fighting for their state and some ethnic people even want their own country which is going to seperate from Burma.

  4. sai Aron Suriys says:

State any good reasons why we should join with Bamar majority by following the main stream bamar culture literature or maintain ethnic identity by separating from Bamar. Both ways it is painful for all of us. Until now how many of bamar stand up against authority when it comes to protecting culture identity and right of ethnic groups . Instead Bamar majority are indirectly supporting this system to flourish and applauding spread of bamar culture and identity to all ethnic ares.

Tell us it is not true with evidence.

  5. ty says:

Actually there are more burmese political prisoners than ethnic minority. Burmese people are not supporting the government’s system. If Burmese are supporting the government, why there are 8888 or monks revolution? Now we have new government, at least you should be more positive. I just want to point out something, there are 7 divisions and 7 states in Burma. All of seven states have their own army or armed forces to against burmese government instead of talking. And guess what? If any of ethnic group is in control of Burma, who can gutanteed that they are not going to do the same way as burmese government?

  6. sai Aron Suriys says:

Remind you most bamar political prisoners are for those general rights and because of economics crisis rather than stand up for ethnic rights. Will majority bamar except that if etnics group start using English as common language instead of Bamar how is your feeling ?/ Just point out how many of bamar points out that teaching of Bamar language in ethnics area is wrong???? Small exemple. How many Bamar point out that history of Burma is full of Bamar king wisdom and vision for future ??? Be honest. Do any Bamar think that Bamar culture is superior to ethnic culture in terms of music , literature and history? Another exemple is how many of your bamar accept muslim as fellow citizen and give him equal right? Nil. How many of bamar lumyo takes an effort to learn ethnic language and culture? Crazy.

  7. MSM says:

That’s right. I know it was the Main issue,it is the Main issue and it will be the Main issue whenever we do not aboolish that system. Dedmocracy will mean nothing without ethnics and human rights.Sad for Burma ..no way out whithout focus this issue.Burma first government after independent was a democratic government but can’t solved ethnic problem.I see we are now going back to that point again.Sincere political manner is the most important for Burma political.
