Exiled Burmese democracy activists in Japan demonstrated on Wednesday in a rare show of support of President Thein Sein concerning his plan to expel the Rohingya minority group to third countries.

During his meeting with United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres on 11 July, Thein Sein mooted a plan to hand over the Rohingyas to the body for resettlement in third countries; however, the UNHCR prompted rejected the idea.

On 18 July, Burmese activists led by the Association of United Nationalities in Japan (AUN) was joined by members from around 30 organisations including National League for Democracy-Liberated Area (NLD-LA) in protesting in front of the United Nations’ office in Tokyo in support of the president’s scheme.

While Burmese democratic activist organisations in Japan have protested against the government’s 2008 constitution, the 2007 crackdown and the formation of the nominally civil parliament in 2011, the activists on Wednesday appeared to be supportive of the plan to resettle about 800,000 Rohingyas outside of the country.

  1. FreeBurma says:

Perhaps these (and other) so-called ‘democracy’ activists from Burma need to ask themselves: why should the rest of the world care about the plight of a people who display utter disdain for the human rights of the Rohingya minority?

  2. Trudee says:

Any Rohingya who have genuine Burmese ID are Burmese and they should have the right to live in Burma. Others who sneaked in will have to go back. No country ever accept sneak-in people.

  3. Matt says:

I know DVB never allows comments that criticize them. What a democratic value DVB is practicing, right?

Anyway, “in a rare show of support of President Thein Sein concerning his plan to expel the Rohingya minority group to third countries.”
Really, DVB? What have you been doing while the whole nation is demonstrating in support of President plan?

    Another utter disappointment, DVB.

  4. Rohang king says:

Resettlement of rohingya in third country was meaned that every human being have three country to stay.first the country of mother womb.second, the country of earth. third, the country of grave. u thein sein logical saying is dedicated to expel rohingya not to the third other country but to the grave.he urged to whole myanmar nations to kill rohingyas and cleaness from arkan . because he clearly known that rohingyas’ first and last country was arkan. Arkan was their identity.if a person do not have second, how would be third.suppose international citizenship law comfirmed a law that the race or nation must be return back to those country where their ancetors origin.now i would like to ask a question from u thein sein.which race must have to go at first? myanmar or rohingyas? Every body will be say myanmar.myanmar was also immigrated race from Tibet. Rakhine was immigrated from magadha, india.isn’t has he right to expel them to india and tibet?
