US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is due to travel to Burma next month, US officials say, in what will mark the most senior-level visit by a US diplomat in nearly half a century.

An official in Washington told AP today that President Obama would likely announce the decision today after meeting with regional ministers in Bali, where the US is attending the 44th ASEAN summit.

It comes after a flurry of visits in the last two months to Burma by senior US officials, including envoy Derek Mitchell and Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner.

Obama reportedly phoned Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday from his Air Force One plane to gauge the Nobel laureate’s opinions on US attempts to engage with the Burmese government. Following her approval, ABC News says, the US president asked Clinton to travel to Burma.

In a statement released today, Obama said: “For decades, Americans have been deeply concerned about the denial of basic human rights for the Burmese people.  The persecution of democratic reformers, the brutality shown towards ethnic minorities, and the concentration of power in the hands of a few military leaders has challenged our conscience, and isolated Burma from the United States and much of the world.

“Yet after years of darkness, we’ve seen flickers of progress in these last several weeks … we want to seize what could be an historic opportunity for progress, and make it clear that if Burma continues to travel down the road of democratic reform, it can forge a new relationship with the United States of America.”

Attempts by Washington to court the government in Naypyidaw have dramatically intensified in recent months, following years of isolation and criticism. Clinton said in Hawaii last week that the US could see itself as a future “partner” of Burma in light of the “first stirrings of change in decades”, although it has continued to press for greater reform, including the release of political prisoners.

The détente comes at a time when the US is growing increasingly anxious about China’s political and economic grip on the Asia-Pacific region, and Washington has made little secret about its desire to regain a foothold here after years spent watching its influence wane.

Critics of the Burmese government say that recent political reforms, while promising, mask continued human rights abuses, particularly in the country’s border regions where Burmese troops are engaged in bloody conflict with ethnic minority armies.

We have ‘ping-pong diplomacy’, then ‘shuttle diplomacy’ in history. Is the one in the making now ‘hugs for thugs diplomacy’? Being a Chemistry student I have no such faith in a process that is called ‘irreversible’. It is only a process when one forces takes to the ‘tipping point’ for change.

American capitalism and democracy is quite dull in Obama’s hand in US. For example, Wall street take over by liberal left wing nuts who supported Obama in last election. The man who talk very loud for changes is same old rotten politician in my point of view. I rather appreciate Bush the second over Obama when it comes to Burma politic. Now what the hell is he selling to Burmese people by Clinton? Is Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD also is already sold out? There is on going slaughter of Kachin people and there is close to 1700 political prisoners still in prison including Min Ko Naing, KoKo Gyi, U Gambira, Khun Htun Oo including some of DVB reporters. If a society changes to positive, it always start from foundation. It always start from constitution and constitution always defends every citizen rights instead of military interest. Where is individual rights in constitution? How about many unjust law in Burmese judicial system. They are still in effect and all Burmese citizens are under the threat of unjust laws. Does Obama know deep enough about Burmese regime and Burmese politic? Most western spin doctors wrote many funny things about Burma and Burma politic. Is Obama also the believer of some spin doctors precriptions for Burma politic? I should tell all Burmese voters in US to vote for Republican candidates in the comming election. What happen to your moral judgement Mr. Obama?

DASSK is cheated by than swe’s Hide-and Seek game obviously. Than shwe’s killing ethnics is continuing with his thousands of reason . Political prisoner( due to monk demonstration) are not yet released but the tricky, dirty than shwe will receive ASEAN chair 2004. It means his cheated election and killing right Nargis constitution2008 are recognized internationally(NLD enthusiastically agreed, see news). Obama’s can only give lip service because of poor economy in US. Than shwe is not a child to be hunger of sweet( dollars) and rich than shwe can buy apple phone 5 by himself but than shwe only needs killing and bullying power (arms and weapon from US, like Ne win’s time)for more creating killing fields in Burma. The events like death of Libya Gaddafi and fall of Egypt Mubarak are never happened to than shwe who declares and behaves himself he is bama king. You, all can see three brutal Burmese king’s statures are erected in Nay-pyi-Daw by than shwe in the respect of their ability of Bama-nization in Burmese history(eg winning on “Mon king” in history,-now Mon becomes ethnic). It is the main slogan( reason)of than shwe to kill ethnics for his union spirit of Burma(actually Bama-nization) because ethnics regions are rich in natural resources. Then, Chinese leaders can give interest free cheques to than shwe for exchange of natural resources because of than shwe’s brave (cruelity). DASSK wants Chinese leaders to start to greet her “migalaba” because Chinese leaders can not speak well in English. Ming Ko Naing tried to speak in Chinese but greedy Chinese leaders did not understand him so he could not get interest- free-cheques so he is a dangerous person for than shwe. Because than shwe wants to continue his “divide and rule”(internal policy) and seek-and-hide game(foreign policy)which are the simple and easy constitution how to rule his great Burma with getting his peaceful Nay-pyi-Daw. Than shwe knows DASSK will seek second peaceful noble price again…

Than shwe knows DASSK will seek second peaceful noble price again with the incapable lip service of US great jelly policy(engagement) to than shwe. At least , Clinton can enjoy Burmese dinner with than shwe, thein sein and DASSK historically with the expanse of the poorest country, Burma. Please, enjoy than shwe’s hide-and-seek game again and again. We, all are fed up with all bama military rules and our only wish is to force than shwe to step down at once or to be killed. We all do not want US jelly foreign policy to than shwe. US jelly policy also misleads English speaking DASSK.

Now Burmese government is calling for peace-negotiation. Most of the time all the ethnics have been cheated by Burmese government, army and politicians. Human rights abuses continue for decades since the formation of the union and when it got destroyed in 1962 by Burmese military coup led by Nay Win. So this time, if they are true to themselves, then the withdrawal of Burmese army from all ethnic states is needed. Thus express your true feeling and vote for the withdrawal of Burmese army from all ethnic states.
