Thabeikkyin

In the North of Burma, seven miles from a town called Thabeikkyin lies the heart of the Burmese Nuclear programme.

Dubbed the “nuclear battalion” by the media, little has been known about this place, (other than rumours of nuclear activity) until now.  It is the home of the Science and Technology Regiment.  A compound set up under the MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) but then moved to the command of the DSSTRC (The Defence Services Science and Technology Research Centre) for the sole purpose of producing a nuclear weapon.

The DSSTRC, based in Pyin Oo Lwin, head the missile and nuclear programme in Burma.

Sai Thein Win has been to Thabeikkyin on two occasions.  He told DVB that it is here Burma is trying to enrich uranium and build a nuclear reactor.  The area has several laboratories where research takes place.

In military files we obtained from another source, DVB found photos of the Thabeikkyin regiment under construction.
